Drum Creation Day

Saturday, 19 September 2026, 9:30am-5:00pm – Tayanita Medicine Lodge

In this workshop, you will ceremonially create a Sacred Medicine Drum. Making your own drum is a special event, allowing an amazing bond between you and this beautiful Medicine piece. This Shamanic Drum will be your friend, your guide, your healer, your teacher and is alive with its own Spirit. Following the beat of the drum, the heartbeat of our Earth Mother, allows you to journey to other realms of the Spirit World which is why some traditions call the drum ‘Spirit Horse’.

Types of hides: Red Deer, Reindeer

Sizes and Types of hoops: 12″, 14″ or 16″ in Ash, Birch, Oak or Willow

Cost: £285 for a 12”; £310 for a 14” OR £335 for a 16”

All hides are responsibly and ethically sourced.

Full payment or a deposit of 1/2 the balance due by 22 August. If a deposit only was paid, the balance will be due by 12 September.

What to bring

  • very sharp pair of scissors that fit your hand well and that will cut leather (crafting scissors)
  • very sharp knife (if you don’t have a small, sharp ceremonial knife, a utility knife / Stanley knife works well instead)
  • a stick about 1 foot long and the size of your thumb, loose bark removed (you may be able to find one in our garden if you cannot find one)
  • a chopping board
  • a thin, ~12 inch long piece of coloured ribbon, plastic ground cloth or tarp (we have some to share)
  • a ruler to gauge size
  • at least a dozen clothes line pegs

Possibly helpful but not strictly necessary: some close-fitting leather gloves (if you wish to help your hands from becoming so tired), a pair of needle nose pliers if you have them.

Please bring a packed lunch. You may bring food to share but we may all be eating at different times due to the fact that people work at different rates.

There will be hot water, tea, coffee and herbals available throughout.

If possible, wear ceremonial clothing but it should be loose and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting damp or wet – we will be outside so dress accordingly.
